Securely Single course
Very few churches offer a course on singleness. Running a course specifically for single people can be a great way to support and encourage those in your church who are single in a variety of circumstances. We recommend the Securely Single course as a great option.
What is Securely Single?
Securely Single is a course especially for Christians who are single (whether they have always been single, or are divorced or widowed). It was written by Rev. Eleanor Jeans following conversations with single people in churches and recognising the need for such material. Single Friendly Church Network supported the course.
It helps single Christians discuss and address the positives and negatives of the single life, and encourages being content in every and any circumstance (Philippians 4:11-13)
What the course involves
Securely Single runs over 5 sessions, each looking at different issues single people might face in life:
Is there something wrong with me?
Who are you? Unveiling God's promises
Is singleness a gift?
What about intimacy and celibacy?
Moving on: Making the most of being single
There is opportunity in every session to spend time studying the Bible. Space is also provided for discussion and personal reflection.
Each week concludes with prayer and a challenge to think about the one thing to take away from what has been discussed.
“We had an excellent final session tonight of the Securely Single Course. It was really accessible to lead, and appreciated by all my group.”
Running a Securely Single course
You can use the material individually or as a group. Some churches have run this as a small group hosted by a single person, some have done the course online over zoom, and others have run it larger-scale in their church.
The material includes a video talk for each session as well as printable and photocopiable guides for leaders and participants. A group session can take between 1.5 and 2 hours.
Download the course
You can download the course from the Securely Single website. The course costs £30 for all the material.
Please note: While Single Friendly Church Network supports the use of Securely Single in churches, this course may not be suitable for every individual or church context. Please do your own research before deciding whether this course is right for you. You are welcome to email us any feedback you have.
“I’m so glad this course exists. We’ve needed something like it for a while, and this is a real gift to the church. It would be great to work through by yourself, or with a group of friends, or a church small group. It covers some of the big questions and issues around singleness, and is honest and realistic as well as being positive and hopeful.”
